About Me
I've collected coins since age 8. If i had the money I'd be an everything collector like Eliasberg or Hansen, but that's ok, and so far I've been very thankful that I can afford to collect high quality Lincoln Cents and other mint state coins from 1934-date.

- IanRussell Haha. Yep, many of them are already half packed up and ready to go. Probably will wait a bit on some of them (and am still waiting to unite my state quarters which are stored across 4 different locations now). Figured selling here would be a long-shot but you never know.[IanRussell] Haha. Yep, many of them are already half packed up and ready to go. - I did "auto create" sets to see if it added to my total set points. It did. I guess that's one way to count or accumulate points but I didn't really intend to form date sets and w varieties sets. Of course some sets aren't scored yet and so I assume no points are accumulated for those. I went way ahead on the points leaderboard, but I also think that's a mistake anyway as Mountain (aka LostMountainMan) has about as many coins as the rest of us combined! - PCGS hasn't done a public Friday in a long time that I know of. You can call them and ask if they plan any. Otherwise, you have to submit coins through an authorized dealer, or join their Collectors Club and ship them or drop them off during one of the shows where they have a submission table.PCGS hasn't done a public Friday in a long time that I know of. - What would be cool is an alternate scoring that bases your score on the value differences between your guesses and the actual grades. A lot of these au58 vs ms62 calls would matter a lot less, while on the other hand just being a + off can mean the difference between an expensive low pop top pop vs a more common coin. Afterall "market grading" is supposedly what is practiced by pcgs. What would be cool is an alternate scoring that bases your score on the value differences between your guesses and the actual grades. - Meant2B. 43-D's come nice, and yours is. I don't think it is 6FS, too many breaks between steps 5 & 6 in my opinion (yellow), and I don't care for the gash across steps 1 & 2 under the 3rd pillar. Interestingly enough, you could make an argument for 7 steps, it looks like something caused a doubling of step 2 (blue). Geeez Louise, I go away for a day and someone actually makes a post in the Jefferson Nickels group.Meant2B. 43-D's come nice, and yours is. - Thanks JeffersonFrog. Actually it's 45-d and not 43-d and that makes a huge difference. Yeah I would have not accepted this coin for my collection as a 43-d (even at a 43-d price). Ironically these 2 "easy" dates are two of the last few coins I need. I'll have to double check the "gash" you mentioned before bringing it to the safe deposit box. Might be tone. Same with the most left circle you made. Thanks [JeffersonFrog]. Actually it's 45-d and not 43-d and that makes a huge difference. - The question is where are the 47 NGC ms67 6 step 45-d Jeffs listed in their pop report? Only a couple are in the auction archives since 2000 (including zero in the GC archives). What's funny is it looks like a dozen or so are in the Teletrade archives from the 1990s and sold for as little as $40. Holy cow. Of course I have no idea what the quality of those coins are. The few ones in the Heritage archives don't look so great but it might just be the scan. The question is where are the 47 NGC ms67 6 step 45-d Jeffs listed in their pop report? - I tend to agree with you in general FlyingAl. If you look at Hansen's set I would not consider most of his coins FS. This particular coin has some tone lines and super whimsical friction, not really cuts, no interruptions in the top 5 steps. The question is would you require the 6th step to be as sharp as the others or if the line makes it, even at 1% thick as it should be, should it count? The right side is ok, maybe some diagonal die crack there at step 6. Coin is graded 67+fs but I feel like it got a bump for the tone and has more marks overall than what I'd like for such a high grade. On the other hand no one seems to have a better one to sell me!I tend to agree with you in general [FlyingAl]. If you look at Hansen's set I would not consider most of his coins FS. - FlyingAl Yep. Looks like my 40-d! Note though the strong steps counterbalance the weakness in the upper hair and shoulder. Finding a fully struck overall 40-d is tough. The NGC one on GC right now might be close but will also cost a fortune.[FlyingAl] Yep. Looks like my 40-d! Note though the strong steps counterbalance the weakness in the upper hair and shoulder. - MeantToBeSpent Yes, that's for sure. I looked at a lot of Jefferson dates on CoinFacts and this was the first one I saw that was truly 6 steps to my standard.[MeantToBeSpent] Yes, that's for sure. - Newp. I got outbid on this coin when it was a 66+fs at over $4k after fees. It later became the first ms67fs. I usually don't like to buy coins that I know had upgraded but at a $2640 winning bid I couldn't resist! Sometimes it's a blessing to be outbid! What a mega-tough date.Newp.
