  • Australia, Australian Joint Stock Bank 1.7.1893 PCGS UNC 60 5 Pounds (Proof)

Cut cancelled. An extremely rare early proof produced by the British firm of Perkins & Bacon. We have traced just two examples of this proof in public auction in the past three decades: this note from the Perkins Bacon Archive, sold May 1995 at Christies and another sold in Australia in 2017. With issued notes selling for into the 5-figures when they appear at auction (which is very infrequently) this extremely rare proof would fill a seldom-filled hole for one lucky collector. Cut cancelled but with most of the design visible, except for the bottom border.

Ex: Spink/Christies Perkins Bacon Archive Sale of 23 May 1995 (Lot 87, hammered for GBP 460)

  • One of my favorite National Banknotes in my Sacramento collection. Originally formed as a National Gold Bank, D.O. Mills played a significant role in the early economy of California's Capital.
