It is the highest graded bill from the bank, with the next one being a 63. The wording from Heritage in 2021 was:
Dixon, IL - $20 1929 Ty. 2 The City National Bank Ch. # 13856 PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
This Lee County farming community was located just off of I-88. A small size only bank, this institution came to the party late, and only issued Type Two notes. Eight examples are enumerated in the NBN Census, with this piece easily being the nicest example. The only other example we have sold was a very problemed Good-Very Good that realized over $400 fifteen years ago.

This was buy far the biggest show I've ever attended. It was amazing! I met so many people I've only read about over the years, I bought some incredible pieces, and made some important contacts. This note is one of the biggest reasons I enjoy Nationals - just seeing the town on the note reminds me of this amazing experience of being in that town for a few days in August of 2023 and attending the ANA show. When a customer buys a NBN from me, I always ask "why that note?" I think my favorite answer was "Because my grandfather signed it" from a note I sold to a customer from Ohio.
According to Track and Price, only 12 large remains from The Fourth National Bank of Pittsburgh and of those, 4 are $10 brown backs. This note in particular was signed by Cashier George Henry Fulton and Pres. James Madison Bailey and appears to be bold live ink signatures.3 Comments 0 Shares 342 ViewsCommenting is disabled.- My favorite note is the Lazy Deuce. They're a little too expensive for me, though. I wonder if we'll be able to add certified bank notes to MyCollect one day.My favorite note is the Lazy Deuce. - Tony They can be tricky because the lazy deuce is only from first charter notes. Only about 2000 TOTAL remain across the board. Many banks didn't even produce them. They are very, very old paper so most are low grade and priced high. It was ranked by DQ Bowers #4 as the greatest US Currency. I would put the $10 up there as well. The $20 1st chrt notes have the baptism of Pocahontas on the reverse and it's absolutely stunning note. One appeal to me for Nationals is when you really consider the value, the prices are not that bad (most of the time). This note I have for sale is under $1k, it's one of the most beautiful of all time of US currency, and it's one of only 4! Not 400, not 40, but 4. Pretty cool to have that exclusivity.[Tony] They can be tricky because the lazy deuce is only from first charter notes. Only about 2000 TOTAL remain across the board. John Morton, a farmer from Pennsylvania who signed the Declaration of Independence as well as the Continental Association, also signed this Colonial Pennsylvania note. Morton also chaired the committee that wrote the Articles of Confederation and would have been a signatory, however, he passed away a few months before the articles were completed in November 1777.
