So I don't have a monster toned silver coin to share today, BUT I do have my most recent auction win. I have been chasing this 1898 Mo one Peso Gold Coin for quite a while. It is the last coin my wife Debbie and I needed for our collection of Mexican Second Republic circulating gold coins. Yep, we had them all but this tiny, little guy. No longer. It is ours. We were planning on picking one up at the USMEX.org convention at the end of October. Back surgery put an end to that plan so auction hunting we went. We got a pretty good deal I feel.
This is a tiny coin. Only 14.0mm and a weight of 1.692g it can get lost easy. Many were also made into jewelery to even further limit the population. Mine graded out as an MS 63. Not a crazy high grade but it shares the grade with 7 other like graded coins and has only 7 higher. Tough coin to find in good shape. Even tougher to get nice photos of. At least it is for me.
So I hope you enjoy this coin. Anybody believe this is the last gold coin we will hunt for? Thanks. Cross posted.

  • What Does Everybody Think?
So I found my old "pocket piece" deep in my safe yesterday. My old coin dealer gave me this coin years ago. I looked it up on numista today and found I have many choices as to its pedigree. Four diferent types of these Charles IV, incorrectly marked IIII, 1808 are listed. I read mine as one minted in Lima, Peru with an assayer initials of J.P. Does anybody know who the assayers full name is? Also what does everyone think about my choice of Lima? That would make it the last year of this coins series. Thanks for looking and any help.

I was hoping to show more of the colors but I just can't capture them with my camera, yet. You can see some dark colors but that's about it. Still a cool addition to my Cap and Rays Second Republic book. As you can see, I hope, it's a 1899 Mo AM un peso. Thanks for looking.
