The Israel 12th Anniversary Coin honored the 100th anniversary of the birth of Theodore Herzl, the Herzl Centenary.
"If the Jewish people desire it, then they will have their own State", wrote Benjamin Ze'ev Herzl in his book 'The Jewish State". He aroused the collective will of a nation and raised the dreams of redemption on the road to political realization. In September 1897 Herzl wrote: "In Basel I founded the Jewish State. Perhaps in five years, but certainly in 50 years, everyone will be convinced of this." On November 29, 1947, exactly fifty years later, the General Assembly of the United Nations passed a resolution recommending the establishment of an independent Jewish State.

Wish I was around when these Coin Galleries auctions were in swing in the 70's & 80's, they had some killer Colonial material available back then. I have many of their catalogs and PRLs they issued in that era. They issued mostly fixed price lists in the 1950's and started to run auctions more in the 60's onward. Almost every one of their FPLs or auctions had something unexpected and cool in it.

Their flip inserts are oversized and will not fit into a 2"x2" flip. You have to trim them, and the 4th line ("A FAMILY TRADITION SINCE 1931") gets cut off. Argh! The lot number is on the back, using a small adhesive label. So which side do you show?

  Anaximander was probably designed to be used in a crown sized flip. I recall some older Goldberg auction lots coming that way to me.
