- I started taking coin photos in 1996 at RARCOA with a Polaroid 2000. While the photos were pretty terrible by today’s standards, they were ahead of the game at that time.

- At 1000 guesses, and still holding at 70%+. I still believe that 75% will be a tough score to top at 1000+ guesses. We have some 70%+ players at the top of the leader board, but their scores will likely drop over time. I'm getting great at grading Roosevelt Dimes and Washington Quarters, and a lot of old brain cells are waking up. I hoping to better my score by 1 or 2 % over the next 1000 guesses. At 1000 guesses, and still holding at 70%+. I still believe that 75% will be a tough score to top at 1000+ guesses. - For someone who specializes in classic coins, your score is extra impressive. When we add a "classics only" game, you'll be over 80%.For someone who specializes in classic coins, your score is extra impressive. When we add a "classics only" game, you'll be over 80%.

- Be careful, as Guess the Grade could be a new addiction. I've been playing with this today prior to the official launch, and after grading 400 coins today - more correctly 400 pictures of coins - I have a few tips for all of you that want to give it a try ...
Use your plusses - If you are not sure about a 63 or 64 grade, 63+ will only cost you a two point deduction instead of the eight point deduction if you are one full grade off.
Don't forget about that BN suffix, as I believe that I lost two points on some circulated Indian Cents for not noting the BN.
I tried grading faster, at a pace of about 15 seconds per coin, and started slipping in my results. Slowing down just a touch and my results improved. My suggestion is that you take a little bit of extra time but develop a pace. After a couple of hundred coins you should hit a groove.
Grading coins from photos can be tough, especially for proofs. I expect that a 75% accuracy will prove to be a top score over a large sample. I'm hoping to work my score back over 70%.

Just finished the first 50, 44% accuracy, #165/290. This is going to be really cool to watch evolve. Is this The Last Starfighter of coin collecting? They should add an average time metric to the leaderboard, and work on the UI so everything can be mapped to the keyboard. Back in the early 2000s I did some work for Amazon Mechanical Turk, we'd see a series of images from a car driving past a business and we'd pick the best photo out of 8 and get 3c each, if you were fast enough you could make $40/hr. - I'm not much of a US collector, at all, many of these i'm only vaguely familiar with in the barest way, so it's def been a learning curve. Many of mine are typically 1 point conservative, but then a heavy hand of red zero pointers, many of which i just find myself totally perplexed at given grade (and many designations).I'm not much of a US collector, at all, many of these i'm only vaguely familiar with in the barest way, so it's def been a learning curve. - FriendlyEagle7 Funny you mention Turk. In one of the threads were the TPG inconsistency was being talked about, it made me wonder... IanRussell could end up with a crowd sourced score and start an alternative slabbing service or stickering indicating that the TPG score on the coin had agreed with the masses. ;-)
That's a bit tounge-in-cheek, by the way.[FriendlyEagle7] Funny you mention Turk. In one of the threads were the TPG inconsistency was being talked about, it made me wonder... I don't think it will replace slabbing or human grading, but could certainly make things smoother for collectors, dealers, and the TPGs by giving people confidence to submit something. Lots of potential here.[arkjones] if you have a coin that already has a photo cert and think it might be worth regrading, or can take a good enough photo of an ungraded coin, a service like this could save people a lot of time and money in deciding what to grade. - Be careful scrolling on touch screen, immediately after submitting one. My screen hung, or pause in server loading. Either way i must have accidentally submitted the next one w/o even getting a look at it, or obviously filling anything. - Use the FBL, even if you don't agree, unless you think the lines are just total mush. More often than not, that's how they got attributed. You'll earn more than lose. Just my experience.Use the FBL, even if you don't agree, unless you think the lines are just total mush. More often than not, that's how they got attributed. You'll earn more than lose. - SilverAge3 Seems to be the trend with FS also. Of the relatively few Jeffs that I've come across on here so far, I only saw one that I would cleanly call FS, but I think they all were FS on the grade. I'm leaning toward, if MS 62 and up... most likley PCGS assumes FS. lol[SilverAge3] Seems to be the trend with FS also. - I've had many Franklin halves, all but one was not designated fbl, iirc, but only one i'd personally call fbl. I tend to grade conservatively (except when i don't lol), but many of these were just not there. Some i thought 'there's just no way...' even after deciding to just add fbl on all, decided not to on these... and sure enough, it got fbl.I've had many Franklin halves, all but one was not designated fbl, iirc, but only one i'd personally call fbl. - I'd say it takes it down half a grade point, although technically it's as struck, so shouldn't matter...Somewhat similar to MS Barbers with the planchet roller marks. Those don't seem to affect the grade too much....?
