  • I'm mostly a US collector but I do occasionally find a reason to chase some world coins. This 1907 20 centavos curved 7, fits into my US minted world coins collection.

The US minted coins for 42 foreign nations. I picked up most of my collection at Baltimore in the summer and the ANA last month. But I'm still on the hunt for a few countries. Canada, China, Hawaii, Poland, Thailand.

  • 10 years ago this summer I stumbled into a wonderful antique/Toy store in Berlin, Md and found this little guy sitting behind the counter in a display with other coins. I had collected coins in my youth but fell away from the hobby in HS and College. But by 2013 I had graduated and had a bit of free time, and more importantly some money. Not knowing what would be restarting when I walked into that store, $150 later I had become rehooked. Here the coin that brought me back.

  • I think the majority believes this coin should be in the set. Would love to hear from someone that disagrees. I include it in my set.

  • Three new additions to my "places we travel" collection. Earlier this month we had a family reunion in Minneapolis. So being from western Maryland, we decided to give flying out of Pittsburgh a try. So the night before we ate and stayed in Somerset, Pa. Then we had four nice days in MN and made a point to visit Minnehaha falls. Finally on the way back we decided to have a "random" 4 night stopover in Pittsburgh. Can you believe that it happened to be Tuesday through Friday right during the ANA show. My wife can't believe the odds either. So finally I picked up my first red seal note to mark the visit.

Next trip involves Florida and Puerto Rico. Anyone have exp cashing in 401ks for bank notes?

  • First! Here is part of my small sized United States Notes set. Working on collecting by type, so by my collection goals it is about halfway between a denomination set and a Fr# set. I've attached my checklist/current progress. I've got the highlighted ones but still out shopping for the others.

If you collect small sized United States Notes, how do you define completion?

  • Newest addition to the collection, it fits into my "Places we've traveled" collection. For the longest time I thought that Waynesboro, PA was the closest national bank to the grandparents house, so I was picking up the random Waynesboro note when one came available at reasonable prices.

Last month sometime I was reading through Heritage's weekly currency auction and see a Blue Ridge Summit, PA (14 known across all denominations) note coming up in the next session. Holy Heck, in all my readings and watchings of NBNs it never occured to me, or appeared to me that Blue Ridge Summit had a national bank. And that is way closer to the Grandparent's house, so I gotta have it. It was time for the auction and after getting weary from clicking that "Bid" button I finally gave up and settled for being the underbidder.

Fast forward to earlier this week. The pictured note here popped up on ebay for about half of what the heritage note went for. So I pressed BIN and got my Blue Ridge Summit note. This is the only T2 $20 known, and before the ebay auction it did not appear on the census, so it is a discovery note as well.

Sometimes all you need is a little bit of patience.
