- 1879 $4 Stella, Flowing Hair graded CAC PR66CAM
The Stella $4 gold pieces were struck in response to the demand for an international currency. This four-dollar denomination served as a common denominator for many other currencies worldwide. Ultimately, the idea of a global currency was put on a shelf, and these coins were never made for commerce. These were sold to Congressmen for $6.10 and later to the collectors for $15. One hundred forty-five years later, this beautiful example now resides encapsulated in a CAC holder.1879 $4 Stella, Flowing Hair graded CAC PR66CAM The Stella $4 gold pieces were struck in response to the demand for an international currency. In addition, we are rolling out two new grading tiers: Economy - Morgan & Peace $1 and Gold (limited to pre-1933 $5, $10, & $20 Libs, Indians, and Saints.) These tiers must only be used for submissions of vintage/classic Morgan and Peace dollars and vintage/classic gold. We have also renamed our Walkthrough tier (used to be premium) to match industry vernacular.
