- acquired this extremely rare silver proof Chilean peso today. One of two I have found documented, the other a details coin from Farouk/Pittman which coincidentally is for sale in the Heritage ANA sale.

- Nice chocolate colored obverse. Your thoughts on the reverse? From photo, looks like something ANACS might call environmental damage and give details grade.Good that PCGS straight graded.Nice chocolate colored obverse. Your thoughts on the reverse? - I’m rather new to early coppers. Can’t say I’ve viewed enough to say what ANACS would give it. From my experience with ancients though, the coloring is non-reactive, non-corrosive. Although the coin clearly must have been stored or left somewhere that cause this only on the reverse, then possibly circulated more to remove from the details.
I’m actually pleased with the coloring as it’s limited to just the fields, and does a good job to highlight the details and bring them out better. This does bring up the thought it’s an environmental interaction, although not qualified as damaged?.. I think overall it improves the enjoyment coin though.
Dark chocolate heavily cleaned ancient coppers are not preferred over less cleaned ones. (Usually called “sand patina”) easily appreciated in hand verses bright lights, although ancients and American coins are two very different things.I’m rather new to early coppers. I only mention ANACS because they don't hesitate to call out every thing. If you have send coins into them keep this in mind. And, honestly, as a buyer, I like ANACS coins because they can be tough. Thanks for sharing the coin, by the way.[Ela126] I agree with you that the coloring adds to the look of the reverse by highlighting the detail. - Here is my most recent newp, one of two MS66 Paraguay Peso’s. This is a one year type which is available in MS64 and below stemming from a Banco Buenas Aires hoard that was release in the 1970’s. - Lovely natural coloration on that coin. I know it's a liberty cap but it seems more like an umbrella over the lion, lol. I bet the luster is very nice.Lovely natural coloration on that coin. - In all the years I've collected coins, started around 1968 - 1969, I've never owned a coin dated 1800. Well, with a fairly major change of collecting strategy of late, this presented itself courtesy of John at Silicon Valley Coins. I think it fits well into my boxes of 20 set.In all the years I've collected coins, started around 1968 - 1969, I've never owned a coin dated 1800.
