[crepidodera] the one thing that shocked me is both times I was given a ms61 Morgan today I immediately thought yep that looks like a 61 and got green for both of them! A few months ago a 61 and a 3 looked more similar to me

[Zach150] It takes many repetitions to tell the grades apart consistently. And even then, you have the human factor, grades are not always consistently applied.

[crepidodera] I’ve found that sometimes this doesn’t work. Great strategy for some easier coin types(eg average 63-64 morgan dollars, Franklin halves, etc), but for weird stuff like old proofs, some bust stuff, or toners, doing away with the + designation can help you get more points. For example, going 65 on a coin guarantees decent value(in the blue) between 64 and 66, while going 65+ only guarantees decent value between 65 and 66. It gives a bit more wiggle room if you’re really stumped.

[crepidodera] thanks for the advice it was helpful! I’ve also found grading less coins in one sitting is better for my accuracy as if I grade much more than 50 in a row my accuracy seems to drop off, I just reset statistics graded 38 coins and an over 60% accuracy,

[Zach150] Keep an eye out for any patterns/“metas” that you see. For example: Toned silver eagles usually get either 67 or 68 Red brown 2 cent pieces usually get 64 or 65 Don’t rely on these too much(use your judgement as the final call) but they can help you go fast/could be good fallback options when you really don’t know.

[richardo.mushinggun] I couldn't agree more. Exactly what I was thinking. Especially with the toned silver eagles I have noticed that.

[Zach150] Another one is that vividly toned franklins tend to go 65 to 66. Often 66 unless there are visible distractions. Just like Richardo said, use your judgement, but I hope that helps.

[Samthecoinman] I have noticed the franklins that appear shinier in the images tend to be the lower grade ones 63-64+ and the 66 coins tend to look more muted on the pictures
