- Trying something different. I used a random number generator to pick a number from 1776 to now. Using the number I will grab some photos off my computer of a couple coins that year. Here it goes, the number picked for me today was 1904. So here are couple pics I found when searching the old hard drive. The Morgan is a NGC 66*. Nickel a NGC 67CAM. $20 PCGS 65.
I don't own any of these coins, I may have at one point. Oddly, The IHC was the toughest coin to find. Most pennies I saw were not very interesting so figured an old ACG coin was different.Trying something different. I used a random number generator to pick a number from 1776 to now. - Yes and no. It has the FG so it's not a FS901 but the roof appears to be over polished. Probably a $2 coin but do your own research on that part.Yes and no. It has the FG so it's not a FS901 but the roof appears to be over polished. Probably a $2 coin but do your own research on that part.

- I saw this coin posted on Facebook. I am curious for people's thoughts on giving designations to non-MS coins. I think I have one AU58PL coin. NGC and ANACS seem to do these and PCGS has said theirs were mistakes. On the PL/DMPL side more seem to be tough dates while many 1880-S could be AU58PL, never seen one but seen several 1889-O. As a collector would you pick up a AU55FBL or AU55FB? Is there a line at MS for the suffix or is a FBL a FBL and a DMPL a DMPL, no matter the underlying grade?

Put another way, the numerical grade should have no bearing on the suffix. If the coin actually has full bell lines, or is actually Proof Like, then regardless of the grade that suffix should appear! With PCGS and Standing Lib Quarters, if a coin that’s lower than Mint State happens to actually have a Full Head, then that coin deservedly gets the FH suffix, which PCGS actually does. - I'm all for it, though i don't collect much US coinage. Plenty of gently circ coins can still have had superlative strikes, made from intact dies, and show very good lustre, and frankly have better eye appeal than technically unc pieces with mediocre, or even piss poor strike, and the unc may have very detracting bagginess. The Brit grading system views the latter types differently, hence the jokes about everything there being graded gEF. I don't know know that either system is perfect conveying an unc w/ mushy strike.
So yeah, i think an AU -- esp 58, but also lower -- may still support designations such as these, incl potentially PL.
Also, I think color designations on circ copper/bronze gets dropped, but perhaps it shouldn't, or at least in some cases the remaining red lustre should be noted somehow.I'm all for it, though i don't collect much US coinage. - I can see the argument going both ways. I wish we could come up with a definition that all the grading companies could agree on and make a standard.I can see the argument going both ways. I wish we could come up with a definition that all the grading companies could agree on and make a standard.

- PMD (post mint damage) meaning it’s damage that happened after it left the mint … yours is a what we call parking lot coin that had a rough life around Parking lots ran over by cars and stuffPMD (post mint damage) meaning it’s damage that happened after it left the mint … yours is a what we call parking lot coin that had a rough life around Parking lots ran over by cars and stuff

- Hi Lucy that always makes me smile when I see a post like this! I agree, it's so much fun hunting for treasure in your change. This one likely has some post mint damage but it does have an interesting looking reverse.
Get yourself a Red Book! It's got bits of info on 90% of USA coins and then you can branch out from there. It sounds like you are like me and enjoy interesting varieties so check out the Cherry Pickers books too. You may need to search libraries for those because some are out of print. You can also get them on the Kindle app.
