- Here is my first gold dollar coin so far. 1854 type 1
It weighs properly and passed an xrf test...
I think that it's legit but would love some input from the serious collectors on here!
Apologies for the 10x loupe in front of a phone camera, it's the best that I can manage currently. - TurtleCatReedingRainbow There are some great deals on the common ones. If you look for AU58 slabbed you should find some nice eye appealing ones for only a small premium over melt. - I’d like to upgrade my type 3, and even found a great coin to do so, but haven’t pulled the trigger. - Yeah, I did the same thing. I sold most of my stuff during the run up recently to create funds for getting these little guys. I’m out of stuff to sell, though. lol.Yeah, I did the same thing. - Was just thinking about this… I had looked at this 1859-s in 55 CAC for months. The dealer wouldn’t budge on price. Finally decided to buy it at his price (I can be impatient) and he sold it three days before! Lesson: sometimes paying a strong price is the right move. Was just thinking about this… I had looked at this 1859-s in 55 CAC for months. The dealer wouldn’t budge on price. - Great coins are above grey sheet... Dealers will charge more for coins with great eye appeal considering the grade. Not all AU55 created equal.Great coins are above grey sheet... Dealers will charge more for coins with great eye appeal considering the grade. Not all AU55 created equal.

- Everyone’s kinda shy here, lol. So how about an ice breaker! How long have you been collecting US gold $1 coins? For me, it’s now at 3 years and counting.Everyone’s kinda shy here, lol. - One is all it takes :) The Red Book US Gold Dollar book is a great one for learning. I found the historical year by year info interesting, too. Wish the red book people would make a bigger overall book of just the historical bits from their books without the coin details. - TurtleCat nice I'll check it out thanks. I'm 99% sure that the one I have is legit but.... I'll post a photo on here and see what people think. It's definitely gold and looks good to me but one of the four people I showed it to was suspicious

- As a longtime small dealer, I have bought and sold maybe a dozen different dates over the years, mostly as type acquisitions, and currently have two pieces in stock, an 1856 Slanted 5 MS63 PCGS CAC, and an 1873 Open 3 MS62+ PCGS CAC. - I have been collecting them as a distraction from my main collection. Usually try for AU55-MS 64 CAC coins under $1,200 mark for now. - So what’s everyone’s favorite gold dollar? It can be one you own or not. I’m actually quite partial to the type 1 series. So an 1849 would be mine. Any mint but I have a Philly in 64 that just looks great. So what’s everyone’s favorite gold dollar? It can be one you own or not. I’m actually quite partial to the type 1 series.
