- I've just acquired this 1943-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar PCGS Genuine VG Details. When I started to learn about coins, the walking half quickly became my favorite. I'm not entirely sure why, I have just found its design enchanting since day one. I find that this rainbow toning only adds to that!
This coin came to us in a collection of other toned and burnt coins the previous owner had recovered from a house fire. (Many with brilliant toning, which we will post on https://www.ebay.com/str/katycoinllc later this month/early next month!).2 Comments 0 Shares 417 ViewsPlease log in to like, share and comment!Commenting is disabled.- ToddPollockThat is very attracting toning for a fire. That is very attracting toning for a fire.
- SkylarAliciaToddPollock I agree! Some of the other coins were not so lucky, we have a handful of charred sooty morgans that are very unattractive! But it's intriguing how some of the other coins toned beautifully nonetheless[ToddPollock] I agree! - FriendlyEagle7 I haven't found anything as of recent. I've scoured forums for info and pretty much just found books relaying the history of chop marks. But I would also love to know if anyone has found a catalogue of all the different marks! :)[FriendlyEagle7] I haven't found anything as of recent. - FriendlyEagle7 Not one I'm aware of (this site used to have one, but it's gone now, have no idea if any of the info is still current, it looks really old) https://www.resellos.com/info/chop_club.php
There are a couple of reference books:
Frank Rose has a pamphlet sized book (54 pages) titled "Chopmarks" published in 1987 and a reprint done half a dozen years later, the reprint has inferior graphics in the print, so look for the original. very hard to find, I've yet to acquire a copy in a decade of keeping an eye out.
"Chopmarked Coins: A History; the silver coins used in China 1600-1935" by Colin James Gullberg Here is a review...

And "By Weight, Not by Coyne: An Introduction to Chopmarked Coins" by W. Taylor Leverage

- I had an argument with a guy. I said a chop mark will make it details. I assume that is the damage that gives the sub titleI had an argument with a guy. I said a chop mark will make it details. I assume that is the damage that gives the sub title
- Yep! This one was cleaned, so if it had not been, it would not have had a 'details' designation. But it was too cool of a coin to pass up! :)Yep! This one was cleaned, so if it had not been, it would not have had a 'details' designation. But it was too cool of a coin to pass up! :)

- shiny223 As far as I've seen, it would not make it details-- at least with PCGS, I am unsure about other grading companies[shiny223] As far as I've seen, it would not make it details-- at least with PCGS, I am unsure about other grading companies 😬
