Anything and everything about the Standing Liberty Quarter, one of the most beautiful US silver coins ever
Recent Updates
  • For Sale - 1923 Standing Lib Quarter PCGS MS64FH with CAC. Only 6 out of 103 with a CAC.

There have been 103 1923 Standing Liberty Quarters graded MS64FH (62 by PCGS and 41 by NGC). At this price point, chances are high that most have been submitted to CAC. Of those 103, only 6 coins have a CAC sticker, and this is one of them!

I consigned this coin in the current Legend Regency Auction 61, Lot #118, as I upgraded this with a new purchase of an MS66FH.

    Here is their description:

“RAZOR SHARP STRIKE. All the design elements are struck to full advantage, with not even a hint of weakness. The ear hole and border around the face are needle sharp as is the date, the inner shield and outer rivets and Liberty's knee is fully rounded. Booming cartwheel luster and brilliance with an even wash of champagne gold toning enhancing the eye appeal.

PCGS 62, NGC 41, CAC 6. The list price in the PCGS Price Guide is $1500. The most recent sale of a CAC example was in July 2021 for $1,357. With a pop of just 6 pieces earning the coveted CAC designation, we think this coin is worth every bit of the $1500 list price, if not more! The perfect addition to a date set and worthy of a premium bid!”

The current bid is $800. A 17.5% Buyers Premium is added on to the winning hammer price.

  • SLQs - Stack’s Showcase Auctions. IMHO...

    * 1916 NGC MS64 FH– Aug 16/Rarities Night: Solid 64. A couple distracting bag marks (including a nick on the boob) likely kept it from grading higher. The full head is on the soft side. Discerning connoisseurs might pass on this.

    * 1916 NGC AU55 – Aug 18: AU55 seems generous given the degree of wear on the obverse. Worth bidding on if you can get it at a good bargain price. Bid is $11,500.

    * 1924-S PCGS MS65 FH – Aug 18: Sharp FH, but with typical softness for S mints. The obverse has a lot of striations in the fields from polished dies (I’ve seen several other 24-S FHs with these same striations). Overall a nice coin. Tempted to bid on it myself.

    * 1919-D NGC MS66 – Aug 18: Lots of toning with some mottled spotting on the obverse. Rare in this grade, only 1 higher. This may attract some vigorous bidding. One with better eye appeal, but flatter head, sold in May for $3.6K.

  • Quick auction report. Two 1916 FHs were offered in Scotsman Midwest Summer Sale that took place on Friday, July 28. The price realized for the 1916 MS63FH was $20,945. Interestingly, the 1916 MS64FH went for less: $19,470 (about greysheet). The MS64 had a granular, rubbed appearance that might have taken some points away. Another nice coin was the 1919-S MS64 that was auctioned on Thursday, July 27, in the Legend Regency Auction. It went for $3,877. Hats off to the winning bidder. They got a great bargain.

  • Last night was session 1 of the big Heritage Long Beach/Summer FUN auction, which featured several awesome SLQs. Sadly, I didn't win the billion dollar Powerball, so I wasn't able to bid on any of them. Quick recap: two MS61 1916s went for $11.7 K and $12.6 respectively, and a 16 MS65FH went for $32.5K, all inclusive of buyer's premium. A 1918/7-S AU58 went for $15K. These were all Greysheet give or take. Then we get to the star SLQ: 1918/7-S MS64FH. Not many of these out there and they seldom come up at auction. You might expect 6 figures, but it came up well short at $81K. It isn't a "sharp" full head, which may have held it back a little. As you can see from the photo below, a lot of flatness behind the cheek and over ear. Still, a mighty sweet coin.

  • Just a head's up that a beautiful coin is on the auction block this Sunday at GreatCollections -- 1918 SLQ PCGS MS66FH. Don't know who's consigning it (not me), but it is one of the better 1918 FHs I've seen. The starting bid is $6,217, which feels too high (greysheet at $3,200 is way way too low IMO). I can't make any money off it at this price, but any of you collectors out there who might want a truly special coin, give it a look.
