  • A new addition to the collection is this Postal Note from Odebolt, Iowa. I really enjoy these pieces as they all are pretty scarce compared to other types of notes - even some Nationals and Obsoletes from Iowa. I believe this is the 11th note from Odebolt in the census and was fresh from the weeds a few months ago. Now I am fairly new to these, but most of them were bought as souvenirs close to or on the last day of issue: June 30, 1894 like this piece.

  • Half of the 4 note depression scrip set from The Des Moines Clearing House. I picked these up on eBay cheap one morning. They came in a basic envelope with a stamp and penny mylars. I'm glad they survived as well as they did!

Despite a lot of Iowa DS priced as commons in the Mitchell & Shafer book, you don't see it offered often (aside from the ultra-common Clarinda pieces). In fact, I have never found DS at local Iowa shows.

Glad to add them to my Iowa holdings!

  • Cleveland was coal mining town in Lucas County, Iowa from around 1880-1908. When the coal mining went away, so did the town. There is nothing really there anymore, maybe a dilapidated house or two. At one time is was busy with a post office and a company store. Hence why this piece was issued. These pieces are quite scarce in terms of offerings, but I know of a major Iowa collection with several of them.

  • Notes from Maine with Congreve backs are rare. I have been able to add 2 to my collection this year. I never thought I would have the opportunity to add even one. This one here was in a frame and at some point was water stained. The obverse is not as dark as the scan suggests.
Anyone have any congreve back notes?
