This 1834 Capped Bust Quarter, Browning-4 and of the Type 2 Small Size subtype, represents an exceptional example of the short-lived reduced-diameter design. Mint State survivors are scarce for the issue, and true Gem examples are particularly elusive in all dates, with no CAC example having sold for over 3 years last of which was for $19,388 11/23 LM for a near blast white example. The coin offered here is a beautifully preserved, toned Gem with full satiny mint luster that radiates beneath layers of vibrant, natural peripheral color. Both sides show brilliant silver-gray central fields framed by rings of amber-gold, russet-orange, and copper-rose that transition into rich teal, cobalt-blue, violet, and deep indigo near the rims—a visual progression especially expressive above Liberty’s cap and around the stars, and slightly more expansive on the reverse. This particular example is a visual prowess with abundant luster, and the only relevant reference point based on color is a higher grade 1835 25C MS66 PCGS CAC that sold for $134,200 01/26 HA.
