  • 1850’s era ingot for sale.
    1850’s era ingot for sale.
OFFER: Harris, Marchand &Co. gold ingot from the S.S. Central America. 23.35oz (considered a small ingot). Comps on these unique ingots is scarce, I searched auction archives and found (4).

There were 5 different types on board. The rarest were Blake & Co. (19), Henry Hentsch (27), Harris, Marchand & Co. (32), (77) by Justh Hunter and (330) from Kellogg & Humbert.

Smaller ingots like this one are highly sought after and command a premium.

The "seal" is a 10/10 and perfect.
1-2019 a 11.53oz ingot sold for $114,000, spot gold was $1319oz for $9887 per oz

    3-2019 a 17.48oz sold for $144,000, gold spot was $1293oz for $8237 per oz,

    9-2022 a 19.2oz sold for $132,000, spot was 1712oz for $6875 per oz.

We purchased this over a year ago and now parting with it.

Today gold spot is over $200 higher than the highest spot on the comps.

$195,000 - Will consider serious offers.

  • One of my favorites. 1849 Norris, Gregg & Norris

The partnership of Norris, Gregg & Norris was founded in New York City as a manufacturing and engineering concern specializing in metal pipes, fittings, boilers, etc., used in plumbing and steam-heating of public buildings. The partners were Thomas H. Norris, Charles Gregg, and Hiram A. Norris, and the firm relocated to the San Francisco area in 1849, following the discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill the previous year. The firm began issuing private gold coinage shortly after its arrival.
