- So I don’t dabble much with gold coins yet, and don’t want to get crazy with it until educated on the subject and or particular coins themselves. I run into ex jewelry often, especially the $1 liberty’s type ones. Input? Some say they’re only worth weight, others say $220-$280.So I don’t dabble much with gold coins yet, and don’t want to get crazy with it until educated on the subject and or particular coins themselves. - gimmepawHello. I am definitely not one of the experts here, but I have purchased quite a few ex jewelry $1 gold coins over the years for spot. It is a way for me to build a collection of a coin that always fascinated me without having to break the bank. I have also seen that these coins can sometimes sell for more than spot if they are slabbed as Details coins, but I have never had any of my coins slabbed so I do not know for sure. Anyway, just wanted to respond because I have not seen much discussion about this and since I own several of these coins your post caught my eye. Happy collecting!Hello.
