  • Attica Owl - Silver Tetradrachm from Athens, about 450-400 BC. This is a coin I've been after for a while. Thankfully a reasonable dealer at the table right next to mine had this one for sale in Sunday.

  • Edit: I have found similar coins online to this one so it may be correct as a coin of Herod Archelaus (the seller told me this is what it is). Please let me know your thoughts and if this is indeed a Herodian coin.

  • I learned about an other coin with hieroglyphs in the latest Bulletin of the French Numismatic Society. It's an imitation of an Athenian owl with the hieroglyph π“Ž (uah - wꜣαΈ₯), probably minted in Philistia in the 4th century BC.

Only 9 specimens are known: 8 specimens of about 0.5 grams and a lighter specimen of 0.12 grams, all from the same hoard discovered in Sicily in 1890.

Obol, Philistia, ND (ca 4th century BC)
    Silver, 0.5 g, 11 mm
Just added to Numista under number N#442799.
Bibliothèque nationale de France / Gallica, Delepierre 3043

See also the only other ancient coin with hieroglyphs on Numista: N#77617.

Please comment if you know any other ancient coin with hieroglyphs.
