- I probably would have graded that 62, 63 at best. I see what you mean with the rub on the cheek. With since coins 58 vs Ms can be hard.I probably would have graded that 62, 63 at best. I see what you mean with the rub on the cheek. With since coins 58 vs Ms can be hard.

- Like RyanG said, Wheaties can be difficult. These and Buffalo Nickels are very subjective with grades. I actually agree with their grade on this one. I think the colors detract a little from it, but 64 seems fair to me. Like I said though, LWCs are hard sometimes.Like RyanG said, Wheaties can be difficult. - It takes a long time and lots of experience to be able to see coins like this and grade them properly. I still don't have that ability down as much as I would want to and I have over 35 years experience. It comes easier for some people.
The first time I bought a mint State Lincoln cent I thought the same thing, why isn't this an AU? This one is a very nice coin probably got a 64 because of the appearance. This coin has minimal distracting marks and might have been 65 without the dark spots and very dark toning. I tend to grade like PCGS (on the liberal side) because that's the grading system I grew up with. CACG s much more conservative, which I like better. CACG would probably give this a 63 or less. View previous replies- RyanG Yeah I've also noticed that these slightly older PCGS holders (with the solid white labels) tend to overgrade Lincolns sometimes[RyanG] Yeah I've also noticed that these slightly older PCGS holders (with the solid white labels) tend to overgrade Lincolns sometimes
- I also thought that the bit of wear on the cheek and jawline (as well as what appears to be green PVC around the date) would keep it out of a MS holder. But hey, PCGS are the expertsI also thought that the bit of wear on the cheek and jawline (as well as what appears to be green PVC around the date) would keep it out of a MS holder. - YN_Evan2010 I don't think that was wear. Looks like it was in an album for a long time and may have been pressure from the album that kept the toning lighter on those sections.[YN_Evan2010] I don't think that was wear. - YN_Evan2010 I do too sometimes and I always use books and the web to help. This photo I got from the PCGS. You can clearly see some wear on the shoulder so it's a great example of a 58. If you compare to the photo you posted, it helps to see the difference. Study the PCGS Photograde and compare to actual coins. It will help you identify them in the future.[YN_Evan2010] I do too sometimes and I always use books and the web to help. This photo I got from the PCGS. - I've seen a few of the seated quarters I used to own on GTG. It's an odd feeling! I consign my duplicates to GC regularly.I've seen a few of the seated quarters I used to own on GTG. It's an odd feeling! I consign my duplicates to GC regularly.
