  • This hurts so bad. That's two in a row now on coins that I've been looking for a LONG time to find one I really liked, bid way more than it shoulda gone for, and lost. I'm happy for the seller at least. They deserved a good payout, even if the colour is questionable.

  • Just a general question for anyone who knows... why do you need to select BN on circulated copper? I thought that anything below a 60 is automatically assumed BN. Like for proof jefferson nickels, you don't need to select FS. I don't think I've ever seen a label have a colour designation for 58+ or less. That's been something I keep forgetting to add when I submit my guesses. Has anyone ever gotten an AU copper that was labeled RD or RB?

  • Just got done photographing this one. This is my best coin roll find so far. It's a scarce 2006 cent (no P, no mint logo) on a copper plated steel planchet. Worth around $100 CAD in MS-63 Red.

  • This "Guess the Grade" game is a pretty addictive time killer. But man, is the scoring brutal. I'll undershoot 6 in a row by a point, then loosen up and *surprise* you overgraded it by 3 points. It's tough to claw your way out of a deficit. Still, I think 60% for going off pictures isn’t terrible. Especially when you get bombarded with proofs and superb gems constantly. I'll play this more often. See if I can improve.

  • Good score from a toonie box today, a 2019 with 16 edge serrations rather than 14. These are like $50 in this shape. Now I'm at 48/49 toonies for my type set:

  • I was extremely lucky today at the coin shop. I purchased a 1960 PL set in the original cardboard holder for spot. The quarter had the nicest toning out of the four silvers, and the most pristine surfaces I have ever gotten from one of these sets. There's one small tick under the caribou's eye and the tiniest little scritchy scratch below the queen's chin, but other than that, it's pure glass! I always buy these hoping to pull a PL-67 and it has finally happened after countless PL-64s, 65s, and a few dozen 66s. Not bad for $15 eh?

  • Got my walker from GC in today. The lustre is really stunning once it's out of the slab!

  • Whoever outbid me on this, I tip my hat to you. This was a really nice example, and well worth the 2⅓× PCGS Price Guide value. But also, I despise you. I've been waiting months for one like this, and of course it didn't go cheap. I really thought I had it in the bag at $172. I'm gonna go sulk and kick rocks now.
Nice photos from Phil and the GC photo team by the way.

  • I'm 99.1% sure PCGS goofed on this. This is a zincoln that just weighs a little heavy. An XRF only hits the surface, so how would you get an accurate reading? Even so, 99.1% copper and 0.9% zinc weighing 2.87g makes absolutely no sense. That has to be someone new using an XRF and not understanding how it works. Look at the parallel, rippled texture all over it. Have you ever seen that on anything but a zincoln? And no, not wood grain toning. That's different. This label makes absolutely zero sense to me. What do you think?
    Agree? Disagree? Why?

  • Here's my best attempt at recreating Phil Arnold's photos. It's a ring light with a cover over it that has holes to make 4 separate lights. That makes it so you can see the lustre, as well as marks, since the full ring just washes everything out with equal light from every angle. It goes around the macro lens, and then I just put the camera on a timer to eliminate any shake. The last two pictures are a GreatPhoto, and my photo of the same coin
