About Me
I am 15 years old (high school freshman) and I have had a strong passion for U.S. coins and also grading them since I was 9 years old. I particularly like early cents, Walkers, Barbers of all denominations, Buffalo nickels, Lincoln + Indian cents, and a lot more!

- I came across this coin on Great Collections. I'm just curious if anybody knows what the weird stuff by the rim is. I wasn't able to figure it out but the coin graded AU58 by PCGSI came across this coin on Great Collections. I'm just curious if anybody knows what the weird stuff by the rim is. - In my opinion proof matte Lincoln cents and sometimes Indians often have some of the nicest toning. The toning found on matte proof cents seems to be somewhat unique to them. - Coins like this have sort of gotten me off to a bad start this quarter. Last quarter I was about 66 percent accuracy and this quarter I’ve only graded about 220 coins but it’s currently only at 63 percent. - I would’ve probably guessed 55, definitely wouldn’t have guessed 58. sometimes it seems like the rarer dates get a little more leeway, I’ve seen a 1893 S Morgan with the design details a little better than I’d think for ag-3 no rim left on the obverse totally worn into the rim and on the reverse 3/4 of the coin was worn into the rim and it was ngc G4 and cac stickeredI would’ve probably guessed 55, definitely wouldn’t have guessed 58. sometimes it seems like the rarer dates get a little more leeway, I’ve seen a 1893 S Morgan with the design details a little better than I’d think for ag-3 no rim left on the obverse totally worn into the rim and on the reverse 3/4 of the coin was worn into the rim and it was ngc G4 and cac stickered

- For us that dont know, what are the 3 errors? For us that dont know, what are the 3 errors?
- For those who don't know here are the 3 errors explained. There is only one stem on the reverse, which is on the right side. There's no stem on the left side of the wreath. The second error is that the fraction says 1/000 instead of 1/100. It should say 1/100 because it's a cent, but a mistake was made when the die was being prepared. The third error is that instead of "United" it appears to say "IInited" This is because the U was originally punched into the die upside down, but a second U was punched into the die the right way. This was supposed to fix the error, but instead it gives an appearance of two i's. There are other 1801 cents and even 1802 and 1803 cents with the 1/000 fraction, however, this is the only variety with the funky U which was punched twice (first upside down) and the missing stem. Due to a lack of money and resources, when a mistake was made during die preparation the dies were often still used. For those who don't know here are the 3 errors explained. - Samthecoinman IMHO, Lower grades are given more leeway by the TPG's for damage (grades 1-4) but once you get over VG, you won't see as many damaged coins that get graded. I've had plenty of AG's and Goods with damage and corrosion that still received a grade. As far as graded early copper in general, its the most subjective of all the series. Many times, planchets were damaged/corroded before they were minted![Samthecoinman] IMHO, Lower grades are given more leeway by the TPG's for damage (grades 1-4) but once you get over VG, you won't see as many damaged coins that get graded.
