- Very interesting slab Kellen. Any idea how I could purchase a CACG Witter U slab? I had hoped to collect all of their sample slabs.Very interesting slab Kellen. Any idea how I could purchase a CACG Witter U slab? I had hoped to collect all of their sample slabs.

- I don't think it's a sample. UGS operated for barely a year and there's no records in archive.org of them ever attending a coin show. Not having a cert# IS strange, but they played fast and loose with everything else.
I'd be more inclined to classify the example on their web site, except the photo at the archive is so small you can't see any detail - different version of the logo however.I don't think it's a sample. - IgnoredByMyCats This might be one of the few slabs on which we disagree :) With all due respect, in my opinion this slab is generally more likely to be a sample than the slab on the UGS website. That one has a numeric grade and nothing on it indicates it is used as a promotional slab, which to me makes it more likely to be a production slab. The potential reasons for the slab above to be made are, in my mind, relatively narrow. It could be, as you and I discussed, that it was simply dreck. But for who, and for what purpose? Services like SGS slabbed a bunch of dreck, but at least attached a PR70 grade to every coin - that was their justification for slabbing dreck. And we know that other circulated Washington quarters were slabbed, with grades, by UGS. Why make some with grades, and others not? More likely, in my mind, is that this slab was used in promotion of the UGS service, and thus no grade was needed because it was meant to show off the slab/label style more than anything else.[IgnoredByMyCats] This might be one of the few slabs on which we disagree :) With all due respect, in my opinion this slab is generally more likely to be a sample than the slab on the UGS website. - IgnoredByMyCats Here we have two UGS slabs - of the same style and of the same type of coin - and one has a serial number/numerical grade, while the other does not. To me that again indicates that the right slab is promotional in nature.[IgnoredByMyCats] Here we have two UGS slabs - of the same style and of the same type of coin - and one has a serial number/numerical grade, while the other does not. - My understanding is that the gold foil labels were for their choice coins (Gold, maybe Morgans) and the lesser coins used the grey reverse. Since these are samples, gold foil + a nickel. My understanding is that the gold foil labels were for their choice coins (Gold, maybe Morgans) and the lesser coins used the grey reverse.
