- Jojo168Thanks, interesting I don't know its origin—whether the coin maker overheated it or it was deliberately and violently heated—but that's how it was when I got it.Thanks, interesting I don't know its origin—whether the coin maker overheated it or it was deliberately and violently heated—but that's how it was when I got it.
- WestinLooks like heat damage. Like when you throw a coin in a fire. It causes the clad layers to bubble up. I think it might have something to do with the copper core having a lower melting point than the cupronickel clad layers. Or maybe they expand at different rates. But it doesn't happen on solid alloys like bronze pennies, or nickels.Looks like heat damage. Like when you throw a coin in a fire. It causes the clad layers to bubble up.
