John Byrd — The Goliad Coinquistador
I’m John Byrd, known around my community as The Goliad Coinquistador. What began as a simple interest in coins grew into a lifelong passion for uncovering the stories they hold, each piece a window into the art, history, and people of its time.
Through my ongoing writing project, “Heads and Tales,” I explore the moments and myths behind the minting, connecting currency to the cultures and events that shaped it. From ancient empires to early America, I enjoy tracing how something as small as a coin can carry the weight of centuries.
Outside of collecting and writing, I serve as Assistant Vice President – HR Generalist at TrustTexas Bank, where I’m proud to support our employees and strengthen the organization’s culture of integrity and service.
Based in Goliad, Texas, I continue my pursuit of discovery—one coin, and one story, at a time.
