- My biggest point total upgrade in one foul swoop.... Still having trouble sitting... I needed some juice... there are 223 55's graded PCGS/NGC and only 6 CAC stickered. Based on the value of a stickered coin, I would think that most of the 223 have been submitted. 2.5%.. makes finding some grades with stickers worth the price of admission. My biggest point total upgrade in one foul swoop.... - bretsan Everything is thru the roof right now. You can't get anything decent for greysheet at auction anymore. Not that I think $1000 is fair for these coins, but it's not out of the question with today's market.[bretsan] Everything is thru the roof right now. - JFVanBurenIII Does he still do the GS Show? I haven't seen him in a while. Yeah, he's a super smart guy when it comes to coins and he will help you. Thankfully the guys that have become super successful in this hobby are also the ones that are willing to pass down the wisdom they have learned and help others like you and me. I learned so much from him showing him my coins, asking him "will this one sticker" and he tells me yeah, maybe or no but then WHY and that's super important.[JFVanBurenIII] Does he still do the GS Show? - RyanG No shows. I used to ask him about stickering, but then realized that was the wrong question. Now I learned what to look for and I listen for grading tips. That's the gold you mine with a genius, then you can self-answer the other question.[RyanG] No shows. I used to ask him about stickering, but then realized that was the wrong question. - What are your set goals? Mine is to bring my Morgan set up to an overall average of 63. I am 26 points away... I have 3 bigger upgrades that are double digits. The rest of my upgrades 4.5 or less. If I wanted to get to a 64 average, I would need 123.
Realizing my largest gains are my VF's. My MS upgrades are 2 points and less. As you can see in the slice of my upgrade sheet, that is the bottom 4. I put some quick ref. notes and where I saw the coin online and for how much. What are your set goals? Mine is to bring my Morgan set up to an overall average of 63. I am 26 points away... - ToddPollock There was a 66+ for close money but no CAC and it would not sticker at 64 let alone 66. - Freshening up your coin window on your slab. I purchased a few coins with some DEEP scratches, and they look like they were dragged on pea gravel. They were auction coins and some people might want to tell people when the holders are less than stellar..*hint*.. anyways.. you can save them. I did take some before pics on the toned coin. The holder was the worst. It took me 15-20 mins a side to get 98% of the scratches out. Directions: Dab a spot of polish on the window and rub it around the window with your finger until its covered. I used a blue shop towel folded till it was about 1/2 wide and polished in a circular motion, continuously until the polish was gone. You have to apply some pressure. Then I wiped it with a damp microfiber towel. Repeat until your scratches are gone. (Lay the slab on another microfiber, don't do it on a table surface.) Then polish the entire slab with an acrylic polish. They come out fantastic. The 95-s had a lot of small micro scratches giving it a haze especially on the reverse. I polished both sides and its spot on. I can't fix the small break in the holder rim. But all is good. Maybe I'll get a booth at a show as Dab-A-Slab slab restorer...Freshening up your coin window on your slab. - There are a lot of very good cleaners and non-grit polishes. I use a guitar polish for guitars with automotive finishes, or an acrylic polish. But when they get damaged then you need to restore them. I will also mention that I had cleaned one and then noticed I couldn't get in any lighter and realized it was a crack / fracture in the acrylic. There are a lot of very good cleaners and non-grit polishes. - ToddPollock I will post my Dremel attempt.. I do not have the vari-speed unit or the old solid state speed control. I used a PR Kennedy and burned the surface. Using a "polishing" wheel. So once I get the speed control, I will try it again.[ToddPollock] I will post my Dremel attempt.. I do not have the vari-speed unit or the old solid state speed control. - ToddPollock I used to be an apprentice acrylic finisher way back in the day and we used a standard polishing rouge on a standard buffing head mounted to a tabletop grinder. I suspect this would also yield good results but I really want to limit the finishing to the coin window.[ToddPollock] I used to be an apprentice acrylic finisher way back in the day and we used a standard polishing rouge on a standard buffing head mounted to a tabletop grinder. - Nice to see some good education and discussion my friend instead of the same ole here’s my coin. I don’t even post my coins when I add now. The lack of conversation and inequity of CACG vs CAC stickered coins has left me flat. Good to hear from you my friend. Also good to hear see tips snd how you care about preservation and eye appeal.Nice to see some good education and discussion my friend instead of the same ole here’s my coin. - This one really irritated me because the toning on the coin is so heavy I didn’t notice the huge scuff in the center of the reverse.

- BTW this is probably why I wouldn't make a good coin dealer. LOL.. I believe presentation is 90% of getting someones attention. I bring 150-200 pool cues to a show, I polish and clean them during set up, again at mid day, and anytime someone does some test shooting. I would spend all my time polishing and cleaning the inventory.BTW this is probably why I wouldn't make a good coin dealer. LOL.. I believe presentation is 90% of getting someones attention.
